This research line contains projects that investigate several aspects of tumor cell biology, especially head and neck tumors, among which salivary gland neoplasms with distinct biological behavior and oral squamous cell carcinoma. Emphasis is given to studies aimed at understanding the mechanisms that dictate (the appearance of) malignant epithelial tumors through models of oral carcinogenesis and esophagitis. These projects aim to study the different mechanisms associated with prognostic factors, such as angiogenesis, proliferation and cell differentiation, signaling pathways, especially the Wnt signaling pathway, as well as the nuclear organization of the chromatin structure and epigenetic and nuclear matrix.
